The conference organisers have kindly allowed us to share the recording for Teaching challenging and culturally sensitive texts with Reading Australia. This short workshop uses our resources to help teachers engage more fully and meaningfully with challenging and/or culturally sensitive texts, so that they feel more confident and better informed about the perspectives needed to teach such material.
This session was presented jointly by Nirvana Watkins and Phil Page. Nirvana is a teacher of English and Head of Department at Camberwell Girls Grammar School, and a regular presenter at the VATE State Conference and AATE National Conferences. Phil has been closely involved with Reading Australia from its inception in 2013, and is the current AATE Treasurer and co-editor of an upcoming AATE text on inclusive Indigenous teaching practice.
