Our official teaching resource for National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is now live!
NSS is an annual event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy in libraries, classrooms, and communities around the country. The NSS book for 2026 is Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake A. Minton.
2025 Reading Australia Fellow Libby Baker, who wrote last year’s NSS resource for The Truck Cat, has once again created curriculum-linked activities for lower and upper primary teachers PLUS a special set of activities for parents and caregivers.
The complete Luna Roo resource can be read online OR downloaded in dedicated PDFs: one each for upper primary, lower primary, and home use. All activities and worksheets will be available on Reading Australia for posterity.
Our sincere thanks to the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and Little Book Press for partnering with us on this resource. Don’t forget that Little Book Press have their own Luna Roo resources, including colouring sheets, word games, craft activities, and more.
Luna Roo will be read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, bookshops, and homes around the country on Wednesday 27 May. There’s still time to register to be part of Australia’s biggest read-along.
We hope our activities enhance your NSS celebrations, and that you enjoy reading Luna Roo with the young football fans in your life!
